Zahn Imports- Custom Shipping Services

There has been a proliferation of antique shops in the Milford-Nashua area in the past decade or so. We discovered that there was an occasional demand for package and ship antique furniture and other items that were too large or heavy to be sent via UPS, or similar carrier.

Utilizing our decades of experience in packing and moving merchandise, we started a side business fulfilling this need. The items we get to process are usually fairly large antique furniture- dressers, sideboards, etc. They are always one-of-a-kind, and often quite valuable.

We developed a method of packaging them utilizing recycled materials from local appliance dealers that I believe is quite unique; and because most of the material is recycled, we are able to keep the total cost at a point where it is feasible to ship an item that in many other cases, would not make sense economically.

First, the piece’s finished surfaces are protected by a layer of paper wadding. At this point any extruded parts, vulnerable knobs, glass, or the like is dealt with in some way. Then the entire piece is sheathed in a layer of double corrugated cardboard and taped. It is remarkable at this point how strong the box is. However, we then form an “exo-skeleton” around the box, using molded angle beams and other materials from the appliance packing. This gives the finished piece the strength to withstand the final layer of corrugated, which is then strapped to form an amazingly crush-proof “crate”

This is not an exact science; every job is a bit different. Call us for an estimate.
